Where is my recording?
Widsith writes its recording into the game’s SavedVariables folder. Here is where that is, and when the game writes it.
A SavedVariables file is where World of Warcraft keeps an addon’s data between sessions. The game writes it when you log out, reload the interface or quit, and not before, so a recording is only as fresh as your last logout or reload. That is why the flame by the minimap shrinks the longer you play without saving, then glows to remind you: clicking it reloads the interface, and the file is written.
Widsith’s file is Widsith.lua, one for each character, in that
character’s own folder.
Where’s my file?
- In the Battle.net app, pick the game, click the cog beside Play and choose Show in Explorer.
- Open
_classic_beta_, thenWTF, thenAccount. - Your account’s folder has a long name in capitals or numbers, like
12345678#1. Inside it, open your realm’s folder (on WoW Forever it may be a number) and then your character’s. - In
SavedVariables, pickWidsith.lua(Windows may show it as just Widsith, a “LUA File”). Ignore the.bakfile, which is the game’s backup.
C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft ›_classic_beta_ ›WTF ›Account ›your account ›your realm ›your character ›SavedVariables › Widsith.lua
Drop the file on any page of the site to open it. Or let the Widsith Uploader send new play by itself, so you never look for the file again: get the uploader.
