Cookies and storage

Our host sets one cookie that says only which version of the site you loaded, and two more keep you signed in once you sign in. The site keeps a few settings, and the recordings you open, in your browser’s own storage. Two other sites are involved: Wowhead for names inside a replay and on a character’s page, and Blizzard for pictures inside a replay, for the portraits of your own characters on the home page and on the page that lists them, and for the achievement icons on a character’s page.

What this site stores

WhereWhatHow long
Cookie __vdplSet by Vercel, our host, on each page you open: which version of the site you loaded, so that a page left open keeps talking to the same version after we change it. It holds nothing about you.Until you close the browser.
Cookie widsith_sessionKeeps you signed in with Battle.net: a random code our server recognises. It holds nothing about you, and only a scrambled copy of it is kept on the server.30 days, or until you sign out.
Cookie widsith_signinOnly while you sign in: matches Battle.net’s answer to the browser that asked, and remembers the page to come back to.Ten minutes at most; deleted when you return.
IndexedDB widsithThe recordings you opened in this browser, and a summary of each for the shelf; with each, the site’s own line from the last check of the armory’s counters against it. Signed in, the characters you keep are also here as this browser’s copy.Until you remove them or clear site data.
Local storage wj.viewWhat the replay shows and hides in each place. It replaced wj.filter, which is read once and then left alone.Until cleared.
Local storage wj.journalWhether the replay’s journal was open.Until cleared.
Local storage wj.sheetWhether the replay’s character sheet was folded.Until cleared.
Local storage wj.sheetSectionsWhich parts of the character sheet are open.Until cleared.
Local storage widsith.talliesWhich totals the character sheet shows.Until cleared.
Local storage site.modeWhich game you looked at last, so the site opens on it.Until cleared.
Local storage site.follows.v1The characters and players you follow, for your feed. Signed in, the list is kept with your account too.Until you unfollow or clear site data.
Session storage site.previewThat you are looking at the sample runs, so moving between pages keeps them.Until the tab is closed.
Local storage site.themeLight, or Auto to follow your system, when you chose one in the footer.Until you choose Dark again or clear site data.
Local storage site.storage-notice.v1That you have seen the storage notice, so it doesn’t ask again.Until cleared.
Local storage wj.signedInThat you were signed in when this browser last asked, so the front page can open on your home straight away. The sign-in cookie still decides.Until you sign out.

All of these are strictly for the site to work the way you left it. The sign-in cookies go only to our own server, which uses them to know it’s you, and the version cookie only to our host; everything else is read by no one but your own browser.

Third parties

When you watch a replay, open a character’s page, or see the Recently list (on the home page and the pages about a quest, an item or a player), the item, quest and creature tooltips come from Wowhead’s script, loaded from wow.zamimg.com, which asks nether.wowhead.com for each name. When we last checked, on 14 October 2026, it set no cookies and stored nothing in your browser. Wowhead can change its script at any time, and what it does is covered by their privacy policy, as is their own site if you follow a link there. In a replay, and anywhere else a character’s face is shown (the front door, the leaderboards, and a quest’s or an item’s page), character portraits load from Blizzard’s image servers. Those servers see your IP address, as any image host does. So do mount pictures, gear and item icons, and the achievement icons on a character’s page. What the armory says of a character is fetched by our own server, not by your browser, and the privacy page says how long it is kept. The map art and the class icons load from our own storage, which Vercel serves for us, not from Blizzard, and they set no cookies. Wowhead’s script loads only inside a replay and on a character’s page, so the front door, the leaderboards, and a quest’s or an item’s page load nothing from Wowhead. These pages load nothing from either. Page views are counted by Vercel Web Analytics, a script served from our own address that sets no cookie and keeps nothing in your browser; the privacy page says what it counts. There are no advertising scripts anywhere on Widsith.

Clearing it

A recording you only watched, without keeping it, goes with “Forget it” on its card or on the character’s page.Signing out takes this browser’s copies of the characters you keep, which stay on Widsith for when you sign in again. Clearing this site’s data in your browser’s settings removes everything on this page at once. What is kept on our servers, and how to delete it, is on the Your data page.

Sign in with Battle.net

Battle.net tells Widsith your BattleTag, your account’s permanent ID and which characters are on your account, so a character you bring can be shown to be yours. It never gives us your password or your email address, and we keep nothing more than that.

Signed in, your characters are on every computer you sign in on, and the Widsith Uploader can send your new play for you.

By continuing you agree to the Terms of Service and the Privacy page.

Open your recording

The game only writes Widsith.lua when the interface reloads. If you have played since you last brought it, click the Widsith flame by your minimap, or log out, or type /reload.

Where the file is

C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft ›_classic_beta_ ›WTF ›Account ›your account ›your realm ›your character ›SavedVariables › Widsith.lua

Each character has a file of its own. The Where’s my file? guide walks you to it.

If you'd rather not find it each time, the Widsith Uploader sends your recordings for you after you play.

The recording plays straight away in this browser. Nothing is uploaded unless you choose to keep it on Widsith.
